RAMW: Summer Restaurant Week Suggestion #8: Espita Mezcaleria, Shaw - August 14-20


The Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington will host Summer Restaurant Week, August 14-20, inviting participating restaurants to offer three-course lunches for $22 and three-course dinners for $35, excluding tax and gratuity at each location. This bi-annual event invites diners to experience Washington’s top restaurants at an affordable price point.

Espita Mezcaleria, the Southern Mexican-inspired restaurant located at 1250 9th Street, NW, 20001, will also be participating with a prix fixe menu including an appetizer, entrée and dessert available during both lunch and dinner service. Prepared by newly appointed Executive Chef Robert Aikens, the lunch menu begins with a Tomatillo & Jalapeño Gazpacho, watermelon, mint, olive crumble, cashew crema and a Yucatecan honey & citrus dressing followed by a Fried Fish Torta, corn tortilla-crusted filet of white fish, served on a sesame bun with cabbage, salsa tártara and jalapeño. For dessert, guests can indulge in Ginger & Cinnamon Arroz con Leche with Mexican mango, amaranth, chia and sesame seed streusel, served with a mango sorbet.

During dinner service, guests will begin their meal with Tuna Ceviche with ruby red Leche de Tigre, coconut water, pink grapefruit, shaved beet, opal basil, mint and pickled white onions followed by Glazed Pork Belly with an almond and pine nut mole, tamarind, pickled raisins and red onions in a sour orange, amaranth porridge. To complete the meal on a sweet note, guests will enjoy a Chocolate Taco, cocoa tortilla, cocoa nibs, chocolate almond ganache & cremeaux, served with chocolate sorbet and vanilla cream

Espita Mezcaleria’s Restaurant Week menu will be available from August 14-20. Lunch is priced at $22 per person, and dinner is priced at $35 per person (beverages, tax and gratuity not included). Lunch is served Monday through Friday, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and dinner is served Sunday, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Monday through Thursday, from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.; Friday and Saturday, from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.
