RAMW: Summer Restaurant Week Suggestion #1 The Oval Room - August 14 - 27


The Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington will host Summer Restaurant Week, August 14-20, inviting participating restaurants to offer three-course lunches for $22 and three-course dinners for $35, excluding tax and gratuity at each location. This bi-annual event invites diners to experience Washington’s top restaurants at an affordable price point. 

The Oval Room, will showcase a three-course meal during both lunch and dinner service this Restaurant Week.  Prepared by Executive Chef John Melfi, the menu begins with a choice of appetizers such as Chilled Heirloom Beet Salad with olive oil croutons, sun gold tomatoes, whipped ricotta and Minus 8 vinaigrette; Local Tomato and Watermelon Salad with watercress, marinated feta cheese, lemon basil and spiced pecans; Burrata Di Puglia with shaved artichokes, fresh herbs, baby cucumber and Meyer lemon vinaigrette; Watermelon Gazpacho with crispy chicken skin, local tomato, red onion, jalapeño, cilantro and toasted almonds; Chicken Liver Mousse with toasted brioche, maple pecan granola, pickled watermelon rind and peach jam, as well as Grilled Marinated Shrimp with brûlée peaches, avocado, radish, hearts of palm and a benne seed tuileEntrée highlights include Pan Seared Merluza with avocado purée, charred cucumbers, patty pan squash, olives and spicy tomato nage; Chorizo Stuffed Grilled Calamari with papas bravas, piquillo peppers, charred onions, salsa verde and red vein sorrel; Crispy Pork Belly with cornbread purée, charred baby corn relish, red pearl onion, summer squash and local peaches; Magret Duck Breast with creamy rice grits, baby bok choy, roasted beets, black plum and sherry gastrique; Acquerello Risotto with San Marzano tomatoes, pane fritto, olio verde, Pecorino Gran Cru and Thai basil, and the Black Pepper Cavatelli with chanterelle mushrooms, heirloom tomatoes, lump crab and smoked ricotta cheeseDessert options include La Bete Noire with white chocolate mousse, black cherry, and toasted pistachios; Buttermilk Panna Cotta with bourbon peaches and long pepper shortbread, as well as Frozen Meyer Lemon Soufflé with toasted almond cereal and local blueberry jam.  Guests can also enjoy featured wine selections such as La Villa de Maison Vialade Marsanne / Roussanne 2014, and the Marques de Riscal “Proximo” Tempranillo 2012 for an additional $35 per bottle.  Wines offered during Restaurant Week are subject to change.  

The Oval Room’s Restaurant Week menu will be available August 14-27.  Lunch is served Monday through Friday, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and dinner is served Sunday through Thursday, from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
