It is time to celebrate the incoming New Year in and around the nation’s capital, and restaurants are offering diners a lively and delicious array of choices.  Fare will range from modern Italian, to Indian and American as the options for celebrating are extensive and enticing. 

Michelin-starred Blue Duck Tavern provides Washingtonians with the perfect option for dining out on New Year’s Eve, Saturday, December 31.  Chef de Cuisine Brad Deboy will present a four-course menu, where diners will choose from a variety of chef’s market selections, along with a Champagne toast for the table.  Priced at $135 per person (exclusive of tax and gratuity), dinner will be served from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.

*At Blue Duck Tavern’s Lounge, guests can ring in the New Year with a sophisticated celebration.   Priced at $195 per person (exclusive of tax and gratuity), the party will include a premium open bar with Champagne and specialty cocktails from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., along with live music by Karla Chisholm until 1 a.m., and sumptuous small plates, Champagne toast at midnight, followed by a decedent dessert table by Blue Duck Tavern’s culinary team.

On New Year’s Eve, Saturday, December 31st, The Lafayette will offer a three-course prix fixe menu priced at $110 per person (tax and gratuity not included) and $55 per child between the ages or four to twelve, available from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.  Guests can anticipate contemporary American cuisine featuring seasonal luxuries delicacies prepared by Executive Chef Nicholas Legret, in addition to attentive service in a stately, elegant setting.  Menu highlights include Hudson Valley Foie Gras Torchon with golden pineapple and ginger chutney; Winter Vegetable Salad with romanesco, broccoli, baby beet, lemon and blood orange dressing; Black Sea Bass with parsnip purée, royal trumpet mushrooms and baby leek etuvée; Spiced Muscovy Duck Breast with farro risotto, dried fruits and purple daikon radish, as well as Fresh Whole Egg Fettuccine Pasta with orange kabocha squash and aged Der Alpen Kase cheese.  For dessert, guests can enjoy a vast selection of sweet treats created by Pastry Chef Josh Short. For those seeking an elegant setting for New Year’s Eve with exceptional cuisine, 1789 Restaurant in Georgetown is the perfect choice.  The landmark restaurant will offer a seasonal a la carte menu,as well as Executive Chef Samuel Kim’s New Year’s Eve Tasting Menu. The six-course tasting menu is priced at $125 per person, excluding tax and gratuity or $175 per person with wine pairings.  Menu highlights include Nantucket Bay Scallops with chorizo vinaigrette, Buddha’s hand and garlic chips; Norwegian Halibut with cèpes, brown butter salsify, crispy sweetbreads and vin jaune demi-glace; Japanese A5 Wagyu Tataki with daikon radish, shoyu-egg emulsion, bonito flakes and micro mizuna, as well as Long Island Crescent Duck, lavender-honey glazed with vanilla turnips and mustard greens.  To end the meal on a sweet note, Pastry Chef David Collier will prepare a Grapefruit Cremieux with Champagne sorbet, basil meringue and pistachio sponge. Ardeo+Bardeo, located at 3311 Connecticut Avenue, NW, will showcase a special holiday menu from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.  The three-course, prix fixe holiday menu is priced at $65 per person which includes a Champagne toast at Midnight (excluding tax and gratuity).  Prepared by Executive Chef Kelly Bunkers, the menu begins with standout starters such as Pork and Apple Salad with maple pork belly, caramelized red onions, mustard vinaigrette and spiced almonds; Scallop Crudo with passion fruit vinaigrette, avocado and jalapeño, and Seared Foie Gras with huckleberry compote, gingerbread pain d'epices and briocheEntrée options are just as enticing and include Spiced Lamb Shank with cranberry beans and pearl onions; Crispy Duck Leg with sweet potato hash, figs and apple cider jus; Blackened New York Strip with fingerling potatoes, mushrooms and cognac demi glace, as well as Scallops with Le Puy lentils, braised fennel and vadouvan apple sauce.  To complete the meal, guests will enjoy a Seasonal Dessert Trio.

Bibiana Osteria-Enoteca, located at 1100 New York Ave, NW,  offers chic décor and tempting Italian fare to help ring in the New Year.  Executive Chef Jake Addeo is offering plenty of options for diners with two seatings available.  Diners during the first seating can enjoy a special a la carte menu, available from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.  During the second seating, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., a four-course pre fixe menu, priced at $85 per person, will be offered which includes a Franciacorta (a sparkling wine from Lombardy) toast at Midnight.  Menu standouts include Burrata, creamy mozzarella with balsamic cipollini, marinated eggplant and farm greens; Crudo, ceviche style Nantucket bay scallops with sea beans, pomegranate and “leche de tigre”; Gnocchi Neri, squid ink gnocchi with Maine lobster, saffron, pickled chilies and chive butter; Raviolo, duck egg yolk ravioli, pear & ricotta filling and pecorino-mint fonduta; Bistecca Tagliata, espresso rubbed wagyu petite tender, spiced celery root and porcini butter; Cervo, venison osso buco, Beluga lentils and a Bing cherry reduction sauce, as well as Ippoglosso, olive oil poached Nova Scotia halibut with smashed new potatoes and roasted fennel broth.  For a sweet finish, guests can choose from tempting desserts such as Torta, molasses cake with candied pecans and TCHO chocolate sauce; Panna Cotta, Greek yogurt panna cotta with angel cake, pomegranate reduction, red wine roasted tomatoes and dacquoise, or the Formaggio, creamy La Tur cheese with warm fruit “ragu”. Rasika, located at 633 D Street, NW, will serve a special New Year’s Eve menu prepared by Group Executive Chef Vikram Sunderam from 5 p.m. to 10:45 p.m.  Guests can savor a three-course menu priced at $85 per person or $125 with wine pairings (tax and gratuity not included). Diners will begin their meal with an amuse of Avocado Golgappa, Bhel Puri, and Gujrati Dhokla, followed by menu highlights including Crab Upma with spiced semolina, curry leaves and black pepper; Lamb Galouti Kebab with smoked lamb mince, cashew nuts and masala paté; Paneer Chili Garlic with cottage cheese, ginger, chilies and green onions; Palak Chaat with crispy baby spinach, sweet yogurt, tamarind and date chutney; Lobster Malai with lobster tail, tender coconut, bay leaf, red chilies and mustard oil; Lamb Chops Nehari with caramelized onions, saffron and dry ginger powder; Vegetable Dhansak with seasonal vegetables, lentils and dhansak masala, as well as Pork Vindaloo with duroc pork chop, Peri-Peri masala and aloo bhaji.  For dessert, guests will enjoy a dessert sampler of Fig Walnut Kulfi;Coconut Rum Barfi; Pumpkin Halwa, and Sticky Chocolate Pudding.  Diners will also receive a complimentary glass of dessert wine for toasting the New Year.  Valet parking is offered for $8.  A credit card is required to confirm all reservations, and a $25 cancellation fee will be applied for those who cancel within three days of the event.

Ashok Bajaj’s latest venture, Bindaas, located at 3309 Connecticut Avenue, next door to Ardeo, will offer a seasonal a la carte menu showcasing innovative, street food Indian dishes on New Year’s Eve.  Fans won’t want to miss holiday specials prepared by Group Executive Chef Vikram Sunderam such as Dover Sole Chutneywala, marinated Dover sole filet with coconut, mint and cilantro chutney, wrapped in a banana leaf and cooked on the tawa, served with cumin potatoes, priced at $18; Goan Lobster Masala, diced lobster tail tossed in a spicy and tangy balchao masala, served with Goan red rice, priced at $20; Lamb Chop Farcha, Frenched lamb chop cooked with onion, tomato and curry leaves, breaded and fried, served with beetroot and tomato chutney and straw potatoes, priced at $18, and the Khumb Paneer Kathi Roll, wild mushroom and Indian cottage cheese cooked in an onion-tomato masala with ginger and green chili, stuffed in a whole roti and cooked on the tawa, served with kachumber and a mint-cilantro chutney, priced at $16.  Bindaas will be open from 11 a.m. to 10:45 p.m. on Saturday, December 31st.  A limited number of valet parking spaces are available after 6 p.m. and priced at $8 per car.  Bindaas will be open for regular dinner service on January 1st, and guests will receive a complimentary glass of bubbly to toast the New Year.

*The Bombay Club, located at 815 Connecticut Avenue, NW, will serve a special New Year’s Eve menu prepared by Executive Chef Nilesh Singhvi, with two seatings available.  A three-course menu priced at $55 per person (tax and gratuity excluded) will be available from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  During the second seating from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., a five-course menu will be available which is priced at $85 per person (tax and gratuity not included).  Menu highlights from the five-course offering include Dahi Pakodi Chaat, Delhi street food made of lentil dumplings, yogurt and chutney; Paneer Pasanda with shitake, tomato, yogurt, clove and cardamom; Lal Maas, venison chop with smoked cloves, yogurt, cardamom, garlic and crispy okra; Chicken Tikka Lababdar with onion, tomato, fenugreek and garam masala, and the Molagapodi Shrimp with lentil, coriander, fenugreek and coconut rice vermicelli.  For dessert, guests will enjoy a dessert sampler of Chocolate Mousse; Pistachio Financier, and Mango Crème Brûlée.  A piano player will be from 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.  The Bombay Club offers valet parking for $8.

*Espita Mezcaleria, located in the Shaw neighborhood at 1250 9th Street, NW, will be offering a six-course, prix fixe menu showcasing the best dishes of Southern Mexico from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.  Prepared by Executive Chef/Partner Alexis Samayoa, the six-course, prix fixe menu is priced at $80 per person or $130 with beverage pairings (tax and gratuity not included), and begins with a choice of Parmesan Croquettesor Red Messina Salad, served with a garlic and walnut vinaigrette, followed by a choice of Salmon Ceviche with popcorn emulsion or the Hanger Tartare with poached quail egg.  Next party-goers will enjoy a Champagne Cheese Fundido with Hedgehog mushrooms and rosemary followed by a choice of Lobster Taco with fried water chestnuts and avocado purée, served on an Epazote tortilla or the Wagyu Ribeye Taco with watercress purée and “A1 Sauce Chips’, served on a guajillo tortilla.  The fifth course offers a choice of Mole Amarillo with turbot, masa chips and white truffle or the Mole de Yerbas with rack of lamb and horseradish froth followed by a dessert course.  Those who wish to forgo dinner can swing by Espita for some late night fun as the restaurant will host a Mexican Cantina New Year’s Eve party, which includes complimentary cocktails, wine, beer, plus a selection of 10 mezcals and Champagne toast at Midnight, delicious snacks, and a DJ spinning lively tunes beginning at 10 p.m.  Tickets for the late night celebration, which includes plenty of dancing, are priced at $100 per person after 10 p.m. or $50 after 12 Midnight (all inclusive).  A Deluxe Cantina Experience priced at $200 per person (all inclusive) will also be available and includes the full six-course, prix fixe menu, served at the bar, as well as open bar and complimentary mezcal & Champagne all night long.  To allow for a full dinner experience, guests are asked to arrive at the bar by 8 p.m.

In Silver Spring, Maryland, guests are invited to ring in the New Year with a special masquerade party at All Set Restaurant & Bar, located at 8630 Fenton Street, Plaza 5, 20910.  Diners can enjoy a three-course meal prepared by Chef Edward Reavis, followed by a night of lively music and dancing, along with a Champagne toast at midnight to welcome 2017.  Priced at $60 per person (not including tax and gratuity), dinner guests will delight in first-course options such as Crispy Shrimp with herb panko and lemon butter, or Winter Salad with baby beets, heirloom carrots, saffron goat cheese, and blood orange vinaigrette, followed by entrée options such as Lobster Crab Cake with wild mushrooms, peewee potatoes, and green beans, or Filet Mignon with scalloped potatoes, Brussels sprouts, and blue cheese demi-glace.  For a decedent finish, diners can treat themselves to desserts like Molten Lava Cake with vanilla ice cream, or New York Cheesecake with macerated berries and Chantilly cream.  Dinner will be served from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Then on January 1st, 2017, you can enjoy a New Year’s Day brunch buffet from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Priced at $50 per person (including tax and gratuity) and $25 for children 12 and under, guests are welcome to enjoy a luxurious Raw Bar with oysters on the half shell and shrimp cocktail, as well as breakfast favorites like Scrambled Eggs, Home Fries, Bacon, Chicken Sausage, Salmon Cakes, Smoked Salmon & Bagels with capers, pickled red onion, dill cream cheese, and sliced tomato, or Pancakes and French Toast with macerated berries, whipped cream, and Vermont maple syrup.  One can also enjoy lunch classics such as Twice Fried Wings, Pulled Pork, Coleslaw, Caesar Salad, and Fresh Fruit.  For a sweet finish there is Cinnamon Sugar Dirt Bombs and Chocolate Chip Cookies.  Additionally, those looking to indulge can enjoy bottomless mimosas for an additional $20 per person.
