DOWNTOWN: The Historic Hay-Adams Celebrates Cherry Blossom Season with Festive Spring Specials

This spring, the award-winning Hay-Adams,  located steps away from the White House at 800 16th Street, NW, is excited to celebrate the return of Cherry Blossom season in the District. This elegant oasis will be serving specials inspired by the crowd-pleasing trees, from March 20th through April 17th.  As it has become tradition in Washington, DC, the city commemorates the 1912 gift of 3,000 Japanese Cherry trees by former Tokyo Mayor Ozaki with the Annual Cherry Blossom Festival. In honor of this gift, Executive Chef Peter Schaffrath, Executive Sous Chef Jaime Montes De Oca and Executive Pastry Chef Josh Short invite guests on a gastronomic journey to honor Japan’s rich culinary arts.

The Lafayette, The Hay-Adams’ contemporary American dining room directly overlooking Lafayette Square, will offer guests a Japanese-inspired three-course, pre-fixe dinner menu in addition to the featured menu, priced at $70 (not including tax and gratuity). Guests will begin their meal with an amuse-bouche with cherry Kir Royal, followed by first course options such as Spring Vegetable Salad with kabocha squash puree and matcha tea powder, and Yellowfin Tuna Tartar with smoked avocado and quail egg.  Entrees include Caramelized Chilean Sea Bass with seaweed salad, pickled radish, miso, and brown butter sauce, as well as Nori Wrapped Black Angus Strip Steak with steamed Japanese eggplant, matsutake mushroom, and plum wine reduction.  For a sweet finish, guests can indulge in Caramelia Chocolate Panna Cotta with cherry marmalade and griottines.

Before or after dinner, guests may head downstairs to visit the legendary Off The Record Bar for a refreshing springtime specialty cocktail, the Off The Record Blossom, made with Hendricks gin, maraschino liquor, lemon juice, crème de violette liquor, and garnished with a limoncello marinated cherry ($16). Additionally, each day of the festival season, from 4 PM to 5 PM, Executive Pastry Chef Josh Short will be present to meet and greet guests in the hotel’s lobby sharing complimentary delicious chocolate and cherry macaroons, as he builds a Cherry Blossom Macaroon Tree.

For those who wish to take a few days to enjoy the diverse Cherry Blossom Festival programming, and visit the famed blossoms and historic landmarks on the National Mall, The Hay-Adams offers a Cherry Blossom Package. The offering includes a luxuriously appointed guestroom created by the renowned designer Tom Pheasant, a Chocolate Espresso Cake with Morello Cherries served on a decorated plate as a welcome amenity, the National Cherry Blossom Festival Information Packet, and American breakfast for two each day, available through Room Service or in The Lafayette dining room.
