LOGAN: Black Restaurant Group and Denizens Brewing Co Release Collaboration Beer: ‘One-Eye’d Bock’

Black Restaurant Group and Denizens Brewing Co. have released a new collaboration beer, “Black’s One-Eye’d Bock.” It will be exclusively available at Black Jack, Republic, BlackSalt and Black’s Bar & Kitchen, as well as at the Denizens Brewing Co. taproom.
There will be an official release party featuring paired oyster and beer flights on Saturday, February 13 in the Lower Taproom of Denizens Brewing Co to celebrate the launch. Chef/owner Jeff Black and Jeff Ramirez, head brewer/co-owner of Denizens, created the Hellesbock-style beer with low bitterness but firm hop aroma, to pair well with the raw bar and seafood offerings for which Black’s restaurants are well known.

Below are the tasting notes:
Black's One-Eye'd Bock
  • Style: Hellesbock
  • ABV: 6.7%
  • Yeast: WLP 800 Pilsner yeast
  • Malt: Weyermann Pilsner, Munich, Caramunich, Carafoam, and Cargill Idapils
  • Hops: Huell Melon
Soft notes of strawberry and melon are derived from the German Huell Melon hops and are balanced by a soft minerality in this medium bodied pale lager.

“A Valentine’s Day Shucking” Launch Party on Saturday February 13th, 1 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Along with the One-Eye’d Bock, the following oysters will be served:

Battle Creek Oysters, Warshore Oyster Company. These oysters begin their life in Pungoteague Creek, VA but are moved to finish out their maturation in Chincoteague, VA. The result is an oyster that is well balanced, with buttery notes and a bright blast of salt. The earthiness gleaned from their early life in the Pungoteague compliments the tartness that Denizens’ barrel-aged Bocho Bandito presents, while the salt rounds out the light body of the brew.

Old Black Salt Oysters, Rappahannock Oyster Company (exclusively cultivated with Black Restaurant Group). Grown in the Black Narrows, a thin strip of volatile waterway located off the coast of Chincoteague Island, VA, this area was specifically selected for its high mineral content and its extreme salinity. Old Black Salt oysters are salty with a good mineral backbone, and when paired with Denizens’ London-style Ponch’s Porter, they accentuate the clean minerality of the beer and electrify its heavy nut-brown notes.

Ayock Oysters, Hood Canal Wa. These are wild, beach grown oysters from the southern end of Hood Canal, Washington. The rough beach life makes these oysters firm, plump, and strong. Their melon sweet flavor is balanced with a good dose of salt and they tend to have a mild algae flavor that lingers with a good chew. Black's One-Eye’d Bock is a natural fit with Ayocks. The oysters enhance the floral and fruity components of the beer and elicit notes of soft melon and champagne.

The Launch Party will be at Denizens Brewing Co. at 1115 East-West Hwy, Silver Spring, MD
