GUEST BLOG: "Virginia Sky" (Video) How Fortunate We Really Are

[Badwolfdc] This is a guest post from filmmaker Ian Reid. Ian's film, 'Virginia Sky', reminds me of how fortunate we are to live in the DMV, how accessible the films featured spots (and many others) are to us all, and how most of us do not take advantage, and visit them

My thanks to Ian for a beautiful film and reminding us what beauty is just a short distance away.

How often do we miss the beauty that surrounds us - take it for granted?

Perhaps beauty isn't something merely to be experienced by those who travel. Perhaps, beauty surrounds us, no matter where we live.

Hi my name is Ian. I'm a filmmaker who lives and works in the DC area. Oftentimes, my team and I are so busy producing content for clients and working to hit deadlines that we forget to take a few moments to experience life. Perhaps you can relate. Perhaps not.

But when I stepped into rural Northern Virginia recently and began filming this short video, I was astounded - while we're rushing to and fro in our busy lives, this pristine countryside awaits mere minutes away from the Capital beltway.

I've been thinking a lot lately about how much life we miss out on by thinking that rest requires a trip to the Caribbean or that to experience beauty requires a red-eye to France. Perhaps we're closer to paradise than we think. Perhaps we just have to look around us. With that thought, my team and I journeyed to the backyard of the nation's capital - the countryside of Northern Virginia. In such wild and pristine scenery it was hard to remember that we were just minutes away from an international city like Washington, DC.
