Mandalay Closes This Week, New Restaurant to Come to Shaw

So the news broke yesterday that Mandalay would be closing its doors after only 8 months.....there's a palpable sigh heard all over Shaw.
ShawMainStreets put out a Press Release this morning laying out the reasons, explaining the family's tragic circumstance that has caused such an abrupt ending. When you think of Mandalay leaving, foremost in our minds must be the very sad time for the family, and for we residents, the loss of a wonderful restaurant and the wonderful people who made it so exciting for the neighborhood. I know the Mandalay's Shaw neighbors wish chef/owner Aung Myint and his family only the best.
The sign say's Open, but the reality is a closure on Thursday this week
Now the good news. "Aung Myint has made arrangements for another concept to take over the space the restaurant occupies in the Shaw building his family built and will continue to own." According to the folks over at ShawMainStreets, Aung Myint is in 'advanced' negotiations for this new (yet to be named) restaurant and the hurry to close this week, while driven primarily by family tragedy, has another reason, the folks that will replace Mandalay are anxious to get started and.......
"They asked Aung Myint to close on Thursday so they can get started with some interior demolition. Their designer is working on a new look."
Alex Padro, ShawMainStreets Executive Director stated that
“We’re sorry to see Mandalay go so soon, but we respect Mr. Myint’s obligations to his family and wish him well,..........But we’re also excited about the new concept and can’t wait for them to open this summer.”

Please Note: Mandalay will be serving dinner on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night, then closing at 8:00 PM on Thursday for a final staff event.
The original Mandalay restaurant in Silver Spring, MD, will remain open.

My Thanks to Alex Padro and ShawMainStreets in putting this article together
