Washington, D.C. – The rooftop oasis nestled atop a renowned Dupont Circle hotel is nearly ready for its close-up. The Embassy Row Hotel, by Destination Hotels & Resorts, announced today that phase one of the property’s $15 million renovation is near completion and hotel officials revealed the architectural characteristics and new menu for The Rooftop. The 4130-square-foot, open-air terrace is undergoing a comprehensive $500,000 transformation that will include an entirely refurbished 450-square-foot swimming pool and outdoor lounge area punctuated with resort cabanas and lounge seating.
A grand opening is slated for June 15, just in time for the summer pool season.
The Embassy Row Hotel offers the only outdoor rooftop terrace in Dupont Circle with soaring views of the city, including picturesque observations of the Washington Monument, National Cathedral and the surrounding DC skyline. The outdoor atmosphere will offer an engaging social experience enhanced by teak plush seating, modern landscape architecture and the addition of a new food and beverage menu, making it ideal for travelers, locals and private functions.

Recently appearing as a guest judge on Fox’s popular reality television cooking competition Hell’s Kitchen, Carlo de Leon, an accomplished food and beverage director, was tapped by The Embassy Row Hotel to design an entirely new culinary program that sources the finest local ingredients with a commitment to sustainability and regional flavors. De Leon is a seasoned chef in the creation of culinary menus at distinguished hotels and resorts around the country. His new select food menu creations for The Rooftop includes: local whitefish tacos, savory local sausages, hearty crab cake sandwich, ramen burger, edamame cilantro hummus, dinosaur kale salad and a signature soft grilled giant pretzel accompanied with a sweet grained mustard.

Designed by HVS Design and Jonathan Nehmer & Associates, The Rooftop terrace and pool will feature a casual, urban atmosphere with buoyant eclectic music playing various soundscapes that fill the skyline space. The design aesthetic is relaxed and playful with vibrant pops of peacock blue and orange accents interspersed throughout. Ample lounge seating of chaises and curtained cabanas are available for relaxing and dining in both the sun and shade. An emerald faux grass wall with uplighting creates a floating effect that offsets a striped pool deck in two shades of medium grey. Festival lighting illuminates the rooftop area that irradiates skyward and an over arching canopy covers a lounge section offering an upscale vibe.

The Embassy Row Hotel is conducting a massive renovation makeover in the next year. In phase two, the hotel renovations of all nine floors and 231 guest rooms will include a new redesigned lobby, a social bar, grab-n-go barista station, new meeting space, and a new fitness studio. Decor in the guest rooms and common areas will reflect its Washington, D.C. origin, re-styled with a whimsical modern inspired design. The lobby bar will open up to outdoor seating overlooking Embassy Row and feature light bites, unique drinks, and outlets for connected visitors.
“With the delivery of the newly renovated Rooftop terrace and pool, we are delighted to unveil phase one of our renovation that exhibits a sophisticated inner-city retreat with unmatched capital views,” says Shawn Jervis, general manager. “We plan to kick off this summer season in true fashionable spirit.”
