Compass Coffee plan Summer 2014 Opening in Shaw

Update:  3/16/2014 Content and Photograph

Following up on the zoning/permitting issue(s). This last Friday I noticed that the 'demolition' permit was posted on the door, and (looking through the glass door) demolition seems to have begun. Good News!
Demolition Permit is Posted on the door
Compass Coffee plan to open their cafe and roastery at 1535 7th Street NW this summer. Compass Coffee's web site claims that they will  "import beans from all over the world and roast them on-site in our cafe to ensure we produce the best tasting coffee in the world"
If you go to their site and register, they will put you on the list for the opening party, as well as pre-opening tastings as they "perfect the taste DC wants most"
ANC6E voted to support Compass Coffee LLC (which seems to be a local company) application for zoning relief, with a unanimous vote and a comment that neighbors are looking forward to the coffee shop, 1535 7th Street NW (the old coin laundry) will offer 1,800 sq feet of space (pretty big for a coffee shop) but the roasting will be done on-site, so quiet a bit of space will be given up for that. They will join a growing group of developments across from The Jefferson, Ivy & Coney are already open, Richard Sandoval has announced plans for a new restaurant just down the block and there is even more to come.
Compass Coffee will sell coffee and tea, and will also offer WiFi.
Compass Coffee soon to be location on 7th Street
Lets hope all the zoning permits et. al. get done and we see Compass Coffee on 7th Street this summer. Badwolfdc will definitely be keeping an eye on this, and will update the blog as things happen.
