Shaw - "For a few days in April 1968"

Earlier this week WAMU 88.5 published an article on the 1968 Riots and how it shaped the Shaw neighborhood. WAMU 88.5 has given permission to the Badwolfdc blog to republish the article and video written and produced by Jacob Fenston. I have decided to show the video in its entirety, and ask that you follow the link to WAMU 88.5 for this extremely well written and informative article.

For the many of you that now live and work in Shaw, that were too young, or not born yet, and the many of you who have moved into the neighborhood as its population has grown, this is a retrospective of one of Shaw's worst times. When you watch the video you will recognize many structures that still exist, especially on 7th Street NW.

"For a few days in 1968, Shaw looked like a war zone. It was the first weekend of April, and the nation's capital was burning, with more than 1000 fires across the city over the course of a few days. Those fires would leave scars that are still healing today"......read the complete article here.

My sincere thanks to WAMU 88.5 (American University Radio) for allowing the Badwolfdc blog to republish this article and video.
Special Kudos to Jacob Fenston
