Quick Shots #4: Crane Comes Down at the Marriott Marquis as Planned

As we reported earlier in the week, Crane #3, that's the one on L Street NW, at the Marriott Marquis would be removed this weekend. So early this morning, the tenuous job of dismantling the 14 story crane began. L Street NW between 9th and 10th was closed to traffic and the 'daredevil' crew started work, the result is graphically shown below;

High above Washington DC without a safety net
Daredevils from Hensel Phelps start to dismantle Crane #3
Each segment has to attached to another crane line

Once secure the segment can be moved
A suspended crane worker disconnects the central segment, that's the operator cab on the right
The final arm is removed and lowered to the ground

Easy right? now all that's left are the upright segments
Watching these guy's is like watching a high-wire act at the circus, and there are probably only a few daring souls that could do this safely:   Hat's Off To You

Quick Shots is a new feature for the site, where there is little or no content, but something of interest we will now issue a Quick Shot
